GLACIAL TOWNHOUSE

GLACIAL TOWNHOUSE

Glacial Townhouse

Remodelling the downstairs space with a neutral white backdrop created this stylish contemporary kitchen.

THE CHALLENGE

Space and integrating an area for entertaining were much needed in this modern Townhouse.  The property was only four years old but the existing layout didn’t work.  The kitchen felt very small and enclosed and was divided off from the dining area so when entertaining our client felt separated from guests.

A professional with a busy career and lifestyle our client wanted to enjoy a kitchen that would be easy to use and look after.  It also needed to provide a social space for her to enjoy when friends and family popped over.

THE SOLUTION

Opening up the downstairs space was the best option, easily achieved as the internal walls weren’t structural so there were no need for supporting beams.  This allowed more daylight into the kitchen along with access through to the French doors at the back.

An L-shape kitchen design could then be established maximising storage on the walls whilst maintaining a spacious feel.  Our client decided to remove the dining table and chairs and instead opted for an island which work very well within L-shaped kitchens.  This gave a much more efficient space within the kitchen.

Wishing to create a blank canvas limited colours were used in tones of white and grey.  This allowed the flexibility to add accessories and paintings with minimal disruption, changing colours schemes as and when.

Light reflecting products were chosen from Bauformat’s naturally elegant Pamplona gloss white units to grey gloss splashbacks.  Silestone’s blanco zeus extreme worktops retained the neutral backdrop.  This surface also wrapped both ends of the island dropping to the floor for a seamless flow.  Minoli’s jasper gris tiles added a further sense of spaciousness throughout the kitchen and living space – they are also quick to clean.

Vitally a Sensio pod was included in the island, hidden when not in use but available for powering small appliances and handy for laptops and phones.

Some of the existing appliances such as the washing machine were reused as they were still relatively new.  Neff appliances were chosen for all the cookware with a hidden extractor and a space saving but multifunctional Quooker boiling water tap.

THE RESULT

Contemporary white kitchen reflecting refinement and elegance.  Opening up the downstairs with stylish tones of white and pops of grey gives the appearance of a larger overall space with light bouncing off the surfaces and through the French doors.

The simplicity of this stylish design creates a workspace that is easy to clean and use ideal for a busy professional.  Whilst the timeless neutral white creates a relaxing environment it provides the flexibility to throw pops of colour on the walls and with accessories providing dramatic contrasts.
