Contemporary Family Quartet

Bringing the kitchen into the 21^st century for this young family.

THE CHALLENGE

This 70’s style house in Weybridge had generous proportions to the rooms but the layout of the old kitchen was in need of a makeover.  The original kitchen had a back door in the middle of the room making the overall layout feel quite disjointed.  Existing shaker style units with a dominant patterned flooring also made the space appear much smaller and darker.

The island was generous in size but had not allowed for any seating space which wasn’t ideal for the family as the kitchen is the hub of the home and needed to work better for everyone.

THE SOLUTION

Light and bright contemporary kitchen was desired.  To improve the space and flow the original back door positioned in the middle of the kitchen was blocked up.  This allowed us to utilise the whole length of the wall creating more storage and worktop space.  The room already had French doors to the outside so the back door wasn’t needed to access the garden.

White Pamploma modern glossy kitchen units by Bauformat brightened up the kitchen with integrated cap handles placed into the top of the doors to allow easy but subtle access.

The texture of the  Brest Antracite concrete look door brought contrast  to the kitchen in the island and dresser areas and the Torquay green glass backsplash added a further reflective surface to bounce light off.   Adding a contemporary touch the plinths were in a Steel effect giving the appearance of the base units floating.

Retaining the seamless flow integrated Neff appliances and a Franke sink increased the worktop space.  Caesarstone’s Ocean Foam worktops in engineered quartz stone created a stunning yet practical surface for this busy family kitchen.  A striking statement island completed the layout, centrally located to allow seating for the whole family.

Finishing touches included Minoli’s Gotha Diamond floor tiles giving an elegant grey marble effect adding depth and versatility to the room.

THE RESULT

This hard working family kitchen has been given a contemporary redesign.  Plenty of storage has been incorporated and increased worktop space so multiple family members can use the kitchen at the same time.  The new layout easily allows transition from one part to the other flowing beautifully.

The overall effect is a wonderfully stylish yet functional modern kitchen that has a welcoming bright and airy feel.
